Since 2015, the State of Ohio has required a pre-license education class for anyone wanting to become a used motor vehicle dealer. The pre-license classes are working well, educating owners before they get their dealer license, but we have 30+ years of dealers that were licensed before this requirement. These dealers are doing things the only way they know how, and sometimes it’s wrong. This doesn’t mean they’re a bad dealer, it just means they haven’t been shown any other way to do it, or they haven’t been shown the compliant way to do it.
Here’s what we’re thinking:
- Done every two years at/before license renewal
- Goes over what rules and laws have changed since the last renewal
- Addresses the top 2 or 3 complaint topics the AG’s office receives about used car sales
What are your thoughts on a continuing education program for licensed dealers?
I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas: Wendy@ohiada.org
